AIS has been bringing innovative products to the scientific community for over 30 years. Founder and president, Dr. Don Nuzzio, has been instrumental in designing some of the most innovative products for the applied environmental electrochemistry community. Dr. Nuzzio was the first person to perform traditional electrochemistry aboard the DSV-ALVIN submersible, operated by Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, with the instrument DLK-SUB-1 (now known as the AIS ISEA™, AIS-INSEA™©, in-situ electrochemical analyzers). Because of this revolutionary instrument, several major discoveries about life at the hydrothermal vents became possible. In 2008, Dr. Nuzzio was a winner of the R&D 100 Award for the AIS ISEA III™ used on several DSV's. This award recognizes the top 100 technologies of the year and is known as the "Oscar of Innovation.” AIS continues its efforts in cutting edge development of small, easy to use electrochemical instruments, easy to service electrodes, and most importantly data analysis.
